Canoe Trip on the Eastern Shore of Maryland

Come paddle with us on September 24, 2016 on Beaverdam Creek in Dorchester County, Maryland.

We will put in our canoes on Beaverdam Creek, and from there explore the waters surrounding Taylors Island Wildlife Management Area and Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge. This area is a prime example of a healthy tidal Eastern Shore waterway, replete with large expanses of tidal marsh and pine forests. The wildlife is dominated by various species of bird life, including nesting bald eagles, ospreys, herons, and ducks. The paddle is comfortable and peaceful, offering up close views of herons fishing in the shallows and ducks nesting in the many trees along the banks.

This trip will be led by CBF educator, Bart Jaeger. The group will meet at the public boat launch on Smithville Road in Church Creek, Maryland, near Taylors Island. Paddle instruction will be offered for those who are first-time paddlers. All canoes and paddling equipment will be provided (note: unfortunately, due to insurance limitations, we cannot allow participants to bring their own boats or life jackets). Children ages 10 and up are welcome to register, but must be accompanied by an adult. This is a paddle for people of all skill levels.

We will be stopping along the way to eat, so please bring a bag lunch.

Things to bring:

  • Shoes that can get wet (old sneakers work great!)
  • Sunscreen and a hat
  • Bug spray
  • Water bottle
  • Bag lunch

Fee is $20.00 for the general public, $15.00 for CBF members. To register complete the form below.
