Making History in 2018

Right in our own backyard, the world's greatest environmental recovery is taking place. And that is in no small part thanks to you.

In 2018 alone, we planted 34 million oysters, taught 33,600 students and teachers in the world's best outdoor classroom, and planted 21,000 trees across the watershed. All of these things were made possible only through an unrelenting commitment to clean water from thousands of individuals throughout the Chesapeake Bay watershed.

Take a minute to explore everything you made happen. Explore our 2018 Year in Review!

While we celebrate our accomplishments, there are significant challenges threatening progress. Record-breaking storms, strengthened by climate change, delivered devastating flooding and pollution. Federal regulations critical to clean water and clean air face severe rollbacks.

But we are responding to these challenges with innovation and ambition. This year, we launched our most audacious initiative yet—the Making History Campaign with goals of planting with partners more than 10 million trees across Pennsylvania and 10 billion new oysters in the Bay.

Dive deeper into the stories in our 2018 Year in Review that showcase the resolve, ingenuity, and love for clean water throughout the watershed.

Our efforts must intensify to meet all new challenges, from extreme weather to extreme politics. The Bay's improvement is fragile. Climate change will make progress more difficult; so will anti-environmental policies.

But one thing we know: With you by our side, we will do everything in our power to maintain and further the Chesapeake Bay's reputation as the world's environmental success model. We are truly making history. Thank you for your partnership.
