Educators to Explore Outdoor Learning Opportunities in Hampton Roads

(VIRGINIA BEACH,VA)—With new opportunities in Hampton Roads for students to learn outdoors with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF), teachers and administrators can explore hands-on environmental education possibilities at a free brunch on Saturday, February 17, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at CBF’s Brock Environmental Center.

At Brunch Inside, Learn Outside: How to join CBF Outdoor Classrooms, educators will discuss the health of the Chesapeake Bay, discover new ways to incorporate the outdoors into their curriculum, and hear from teachers who have participated in CBF field experiences. Weather permitting, they will also visit the marsh and maritime forest on Pleasure House Point and experience learning opportunities in CBF’s newest environmental education program based at the Brock Center.

The brunch will begin at 9 a.m. at the Brock Center at 3663 Marlin Bay Dr. in Virginia Beach. CBF will provide documentation for participants that can be submitted toward credits for professional development requirements. The event is free but registration is required by e-mailing Kayla Deur at [email protected].

Every year about 3,000 Hampton Roads students participate in CBF education programs at the Brock Center. These educational experiences typically include water quality testing, surveying local wildlife, and boat and canoe trips on the Lynnhaven River, or hikes through the nearby maritime forest and marsh. Spots are still available for trips in 2018. Students and teachers who would like to take part in these amazing field experiences can find more information at www.cbf.org/education.
