We have a new addition to the CBF Family in the form of a baby osprey, hatched on July 2, 2018, and viewable on our osprey cam! In this video snapshot, taken July 16, mama osprey delicately feeds the ravenous chick with a freshly caught fish—most likely a menhaden.
The Chesapeake Bay has the most concentrated population of osprey in the world with more than 2,000 nesting pairs. After the females lay eggs (which they incubate for one to two months), the devoted parents stick together and feed and care for the nestlings for 40-55 days after hatching until they learn to fly. Keep an eye on our Bay cam.
