Lafayette Spat-Catcher Roundup this Weekend
10/23/2012

This Saturday, Oct. 27th, CBF is having its Lafayette Spat-Catcher Roundup. The Lafayette Spat Catchers have deployed their spatcatchers all summer to catch baby oysters (spat) and participate in this research project to help scientists better understand oyster larvae distribution and oyster restoration science. We have 80 spatcatchers throughout the Lafayette with cages of 100 oyster shells that they took care of since June. CBF volunteers will be at the Roundup to count the spat found on each spatcatcher and then those oyster shells will be planted on a sanctuary reef so they will live long reproductive lives populating the Lafayette system, creating habitat and filtering our local waters.
