Thank you to everyone who helped make the 2024 DC on the Half Shell such a success!
At the 2024 DC on the Half Shell, guests spent the night listening to live music, enjoying gourmet cuisine, sampling local oysters, and most importantly, celebrating the Chesapeake Bay Foundation's Clean Water Legacy Award recipient.
On March 18, 600+ of the region's top philanthropists, legislative decision makers, and community leaders joined us as we recognized Senator Ben Cardin with the Clean Water Legacy Award. Together we will celebrate his extraordinary efforts to restore and protect the Chesapeake Bay and its local waterways.
Not only was this a celebration of the honoree but a celebration of the Bay’s most critical natural filter: the oyster. CBF welcomed oyster farmers from across the Chesapeake to serve an assortment of the finest (and sustainable!) oysters the Bay and its rivers have to offer. Oyster shells from the event were all taken to CBF's Oyster Restoration Center to be used on sanctuary reefs throughout the watershed.
This event has helped CBF expand within the D.C. community, raise awareness of the importance of oysters, and raise more than $4 million since the event was first held in 2016 toward saving the Bay. By supporting DC on the Half Shell and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, you are helping to accomplish amazing feats like adding millions of baby oysters to our waterways. With the vital funding DC on the Half Shell raises—and with you by our side—we can finish the job.
