Students from Mountain Ridge High School in Frostburg, Maryland have been measuring their local water quality. Their measurements will be a baseline of information in the event that proposed nearby fracking sites are developed and affect the waterways. A State Farm grant to Frostburg State University Foundation, Inc. has supported the students in conducting the research.

Here's what Daryl Griffiths, a senior at Mountain Ridge High School, reports about the project:

"Students from Mountain Ridge High School will supply reliable and unbiased information to the public so that rational decisions can be made regarding hydraulic fracturing for natural gas. We will collect pre-fracking baseline water quality data on the water supply of Frostburg. All data and other fracking related research will be reported by students at public City and County meetings.

"We are helping to create a baseline for water quality prior to hydraulic fracturing. Should these numbers change after fracking begins, we can use the information to inform the public."
