There are so many different ways for each of us to help save the Bay. Granite countertops, kitchen sinks, and lockers, though? Who knew?!

But, that's just one of the ways the Amerigroup Foundation is helping to make clean water a reality in Hampton Roads, Virginia.

As part of its generous support of CBF's Brock Environmental Center, the Amerigroup Foundation has donated countertops, doorstops, and more, including multi-year support totaling $150,000.

"We are proud to support local organizations making such a positive difference in the Hampton Roads community," said Finley Hines, spokesperson for the Amerigroup Foundation. "Clean water is vital to the Commonwealth, its residents, and our economic well-being, and we're  honored to support the Brock Environmental Center and all that it will do to improve Virginia Beach, our local rivers, and the Chesapeake Bay."

CBF is using salvaged, recycled, and reused materials to attain two rigorous environmental sustainability certifications: LEED Platinum and the Living Building Challenge. Over the last several months, CBF has collected kitchen sinks, lockers, doors, mirrors, and champagne corks from the Hampton Roads community. A middle school in Virginia Beach even donated old wooden gym bleachers, which will be used as interior trim around windows and doors at the Brock Center. And our friends at Virtexco, a construction company in Norfolk, put salvaged materials from a local building renovation to good use. Instead of going to the local landfill, the company donated a mop sink, materials to build bathrooms, and other fixtures to CBF for use at the Brock Center.

By reusing materials that may have otherwise been discarded, the center will have less need for newly fabricated materials, ultimately reducing the carbon footprint of the project and saving landfill space.

Thanks to support from local organizations like the Amerigroup Foundation and others, the Brock Environmental Center will transform the future not just of Hampton Roads, but of the entire Bay watershed.

And there's still time for you to be a part of it! Help us Raise the Roof for the Brock Environmental Center. Visit cbf.org/brockRTR to learn more.
